Industrial Air Filters FAQs

What is one example of a HEPA filter?

The semi conductor industry is one example where the HEPA filters help to create a perfectly clean environment. An average human hair is 40 micro meters, but reliable HEPA filters can remove down to .3 micro meters. Plants also will use a downward air flow system that forces particulates down, along with gravity, into a bed beneath the working area, so that the chance of a particulate coming into contact with a computer chip is highly unlikely. There are various method of monitoring the contamination levels in the plant, but the most common is by using lasers to see how many different things it bounces off of before return back to the sensor. It is the same theory as a speed gun used by the police to track how quickly a car is moving, but it is more advances because it tracks as many things as are in the air in senses. Once the air flow is beneath the critical machinery it’s sent to HEPA filters which double or triple filter it, to be sure there are minimal particulates and then sends it back to the fan deck above the plant to, again, pump air down.

Where did modern hydraulics begin?

Several different scientists are credited with coming up with the modern principles of hydraulics. Overall there are examples based on the reigions of the world and a few will be listed here. In ancient Greece the Hero of Alexandria describes a work force pump that was also used in the Roman empire to raise water and in fire engines. King Pandukabhaya is widely credited for being one of the first ever hydraulic engineers and Sri Lanka was enriched by his efforts. The valve tower was used throughout the landscape of small and large scale projects from land irrigation to in home cisterns. In ancient Rome, aqueducts,  watermills and hydraulic mining were all commonplace. Many innovations and advancements were made in the medieval Islamic world as well. Blaise Pascal was one of the influential sources of change because of his invention of Pascal’s law. He was also famous for the invention of the hydraulic press, which forms the basis of most hydraulic actions. The press uses Pascal’s law to show that compression of a closed system liquid in one end of the system will result in an equivalent press in the other end of the system. By doing this, hydraulics use relatively little effort to move larger items.

How often should I change my air filter in my air conditioning unit?

An indoor air conditioning filter should be changed every three to six months depending on the level of use. If you live in a dusty environment it might be beneficial to check it on the low end of the scale to be sure that you’re breathing the healthiest air possible in your home. HEPA filtration system work very well at removing a large quantity of the debris and allergen particulates from the air. Most of the time these particulates will be able to move uninhibited through a regular air filter. The HEPA filter takes advantage of several different methods of air filtration  including a dense labyrinth structure and this is noted further in the  article on industrial air filters.

How often should I change the air filter in my car?

You should change the air filter in your car as per the owner’s manual instructions which usually stipulate 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is a good rule of thumb, and it is important to have the filter so that your engine runs cleanly and without gumming everything up. The process is relatively simple. The filter needs to be changed frequently in a car’s lifetime, so the mechanical engineers put it prominently near the front of the engine compartment. The housing for the filter is usually made of plastic and due to its size it is probably the largest nonmetal object you’ll see in the engine compartment. After unscrewing the case and pulling the filter out, you can eyeball it to see if it looks dirty. The pleated paper may look discolored by dirt and grime. The real test is to hold it away from yourself and bend it backwards to see between the grooves. If the interior of the filter is quite discolored or black you may need to replace it. With these tips in mind replacing your air filter should be easy as well as cheap since the filters are only $10 to $17.
