Hydraulic filters and fluids can last longer through the use of off-line filtration systems. An off-line filter is usually a portable filter unit with a self contained motor. It is used to prefilter oil through a fine filter element before installation into equipment. This removes external contaminants from the oil leaving the system filters to filter out internal contaminants. The same units can be attached to hydraulic resevoirs to clean the hydraulic fluid to a much higher level of cleanliness which can lead to longer life. Argo and Parker filters offer excellent off-line filter systems.

Installation of dessicant breathers in place of regular paper media air filters will remove water particles and solid contaminants from the air. The dessicant media is contained in a clear housing in order to show the media color change which indicates time for replacement. This is a good idea especially compared to the often neglected standard air filter element which seldom gets replaced on a timely basis. Stauff offer high quality dessicant breathers.
